Virtual Racer vs Real Racer: Who’s faster in a Honda Civic Type R?

The FK8 Honda Civic Type R was launched in Malaysia more than a few months ago after endless fanfare but it seems like the dust will take awhile before it settles. Having established itself as the fastest FWD car to lap the prestigious Nurburgring, Honda was up for another challenge with its highly-decorated sportscar.

This time they’ve pitted the real car against its virtual reflection, piloted by a race car driver against a professional gamer. The actual car comes with a “mixed reality windshield” that projects the virtual car in real time.

For those who’ve ever questioned if a virtual racer can be as quick as a real race car driver, given that he isn’t bound by the fear factor, by the consequences of his mistakes and the sensation of speed, here’s your answer.

The FK8 Honda Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine with 305 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Aided by a slick 6-speed close ratio transmission, 0 to 100 km/h is done in 5.8 seconds, with non-stop exhilaration all the way to a 272 km/h top speed.

Regularly spend countless hours online looking at cars and parts I can't afford to buy. How a car makes you feel behind the wheel should be more important than the brand it represents - unless resale value is your thing.
