McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the personalisation arm of McLaren Automotive has just delivered 10 bespoke 570S to McLaren Newport Beach, the largest McLaren retailer in the U.S. Its unique design was inspired to emulate the McLaren 570S GT4 race car and will be named MSO X (X referring to the 10 cars that were built).

Commissioned by McLaren Newport Beach, MSO X’s external design mirrors the GT4 race car very closely featuring a pylon-mounted fixed rear wing that adds close to 100 kg of downforce, functional carbon fibre roof snorkel, front dive planes, MSO Titanium Super Sports Exhaust and GT4-style bonnet. Additionally, the MSO X cars all have liveries inspired by the legendary F1 GTR endurance race cars of the mid-1990s.

The luxurious interior of the 570S has been completely stripped out for a track-oriented, minimalist set up. Inside you’ll find exposed carbon fibre, carbon shell bucket seats with six-point racing harnesses (in addition to regular three-point belts), fire extinguisher and centre tunnel storage bin delete. Keeping in mind that this is still a road car, creature comfort items were retained such as parking sensors, rearview cameras, vehicle lift, air conditioning and McLaren Track Telemetry.

McLaren Automotive Executive Director, Global Sales and Marketing Jolyon Nash said, “The MSO X collection is the perfect example of the rich vein of bespoke service offered by McLaren Special Operations. Customers come to us with their thoughts and ideas and MSO works with them to set boundaries within which they can then let their imaginations run wild.”

All 10 McLaren MSO X have been delivered to their new owners at a special McLaren customer event near Las Vegas. The entire process from initial design to deliveries took just eight months as McLaren Newport Beach Dealer Principal, Pietro Frigerio, explains: “The aim of this project was to have a serious track car that could still be driven on the road and this finished project screams ‘race car’ to the casual onlooker. To have the MSO X project go from renderings at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last July to the 10 magnificent supercars that we handed over to our excited clients today is nothing short of amazing.”
