Following the teaser released a week ago, Lexus has finally uncovered the LS 500 F Sport that’s set to make its appearance in the upcoming 2017 New York International Auto Show. The sharp Lexus LS 500 F Sport marks the third LS 500 model offered, following the standard LS 500 and the hybrid LS 500h.
Unlike its tamer siblings, the LS 500 F Sport looks more rebellious with its F Sport addenda. Unique to this LS is the complex front grille that has 7,100 individual surfaces, 2,100 more than the standard LS. Working together with the Spindle grille are two larger side intakes to improve air cooling. The LS 500 F Sport gets bigger 20-inch wheels, as well as two exclusive exterior hues – White Nova and Heat Blue.
The sporty theme is also found on the inside, with the seat covered with perforated leather and Ultrasuede. As always with F Sport models, it obtains aluminium pedals and footrest together with F Sport steering wheel and LFA-influenced instruments.
Just like the other F Sport models, no performance gains are made. It can be had with either the 415 hp 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 from the standard LS 500 or the 295 hp 3.5-litre V6 hybrid. The former reaches 100 km/h from nought in 4.5 seconds, while the hybrid does that in 5.2 seconds.
Being a sporty sedan that poised to be “the most engaging LS driving experience yet” means it has bigger brakes and sport-tuned air suspension. It benefits from the latest Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) chassis control system that tweaks the ABS, traction control, ESC and steering while at different speeds.
Back on our shores, Lexus Malaysia offer the F Sport trim on most of its models. There’s a good chance all three LS 500s to make their way here in the near future, to provide the W222 Mercedes S-Class and G11 BMW 7 Series with some competition.
